Zenko-ji was founded approximately 1,400 years ago as a non-sectarian temple. So renowned is this sacred site that there is a saying, 'visit Zenko-ji once in your lifetime,' and pilgrims from across the country flock here to worship. Its National Treasure main hall is the third largest wooden structure in Japan. The 'Kaidan Meguri,' where visitors navigate through a pitch-dark corridor by touch, is a spiritual experience unique to Zenko-ji.
