Yokohama Honmoku Sankei-en Hydrangea Stroll
Hydrangeas bloom at their peak in June at Yokohama's renowned Sankei-en Garden. The beautiful collaboration between historic architecture and flowers creates a stunning display.
Sankei-en, a famous garden in Yokohama designed by businessman Sankei Hara, spans 175,000 square meters with historic structures relocated from Kyoto and Kamakura scattered throughout. From mid-to-late June, approximately 500 lacecap and bigleaf hydrangea plants reach their peak bloom, and the combination of historic architecture and hydrangeas possesses a beauty reminiscent of Japanese paintings. The early morning lotus viewing event in July offers the fantastical experience of watching lotus flowers bloom. Along with spring cherry blossoms and autumn foliage, Sankei-en allows visitors to savor the beauty of Japanese gardens throughout the four seasons, making it a hidden gem in Yokohama.
