Yamaguchi Rurikoji Five-Story Pagoda
The national treasure Rurikoji Five-Story Pagoda, counted among Japan's three famous pagodas. Be moved by its graceful beauty.
The Rurikoji Five-Story Pagoda standing in Kōzan Park in Yamaguchi City is a national treasure built in 1442 during the Muromachi period. It is one of Japan's three famous pagodas alongside those at Horyuji and Daigoji temples, known for its beautiful cypress bark roof and well-balanced form. The pagoda's reflection in the surrounding pond creates a spectacular view, particularly stunning during the fresh green season and autumn foliage period. At night it is illuminated, and the five-story pagoda floating in the darkness creates a mystical atmosphere. This spot symbolizes the cultural depth of Yamaguchi, once called the "Western Capital."
