Spectacular Viewpoint of Kanmon Strait
A spectacular viewpoint overlooking the Kanmon Strait, which separates Honshu and Kyushu. The sight of the tidal currents and ships crossing the strait is magnificent.
The Kanmon Strait connecting Shimonoseki City in Yamaguchi Prefecture and Moji Ward in Kitakyushu City is characterized by a dynamic landscape where large ships navigate through a strait at its narrowest point of just 600m. From the observation deck at Hinoyama Park on the Shimonoseki side, you can overlook the entire strait, and at night the illuminated Kanmon Bridge and the night view of the opposite shore create a fantastic sight. The Kanmon Tunnel pedestrian passage, a submarine tunnel stretching 780m in length, offers a unique experience of walking between Honshu and Kyushu. As a historic site of the Genpei War at Dannoura, this spot is also full of historical romance.
