Akiyoshidai Karst Observatory
Panoramic view of Akiyoshidai, Japan's largest karst plateau, from the observatory. A magnificent landscape unfolds before you.
Akiyoshidai, stretching across Mine City in Yamaguchi Prefecture, is designated as a National Special Natural Monument as Japan's largest karst plateau. From the observatory, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the unique landscape where white limestone rocks are scattered across endless grasslands, leaving you overwhelmed by the magnificent natural art created by the Earth over countless years. The plateau shows different expressions throughout the four seasons: fresh green in spring, deep green in summer, Japanese pampas grass in autumn, and controlled burning in winter. We recommend visiting together with Akiyoshido Cave.
