Uesugi Shrine and a Historical Walk in Yonezawa
米沢市, Yamagata
Enjoy the cherry blossoms and snowy landscapes of Uesugi Shrine, which enshrines Uesugi Kenshin, and Matsugaoka Park
Uesugi Shrine is a symbol of Yonezawa, with Uesugi Kenshin, a Sengoku warlord, as its enshrined deity. Located within Matsugaoka Park, in spring approximately 200 cherry blossoms color the moat, and in winter a magical landscape unfolds with the snow lantern festival. The adjacent Uesugi Museum displays Naoe Kanetsugu's famous 'love' helmet and historical documents of the Yonezawa domain. You can also learn about the spirit of 'If you will it, it will be done' by Uesugi Takayama.
