Sarobetsu Moor
The northernmost wetland with views of Mount Rishiri. A spectacular summer landscape where colonies of Ezo daylilies turn the marshland golden yellow.
Sarobetsu Moor is a vast wetland spanning approximately 6,700 hectares across northern Hokkaido and forms part of the Rishiri-Rebun-Sarobetsu National Park. From hiking trails with well-maintained wooden boardwalks, visitors can enjoy the magnificent sight of Ezo daylilies blooming in brilliant yellow across the landscape in late June. On clear days, Mount Rishiri on Rishiri Island stands majestically on the horizon beyond the wetland. Approximately 100 species of wild birds have been recorded here, making it a premier destination for birdwatching. The Sarobetsu Wetland Center offers educational exhibits about the wetland's ecosystem.
