Kainan City has a history of approximately 600 years as a production center for Kishu lacquerware and is counted as one of Japan's three major lacquerware production centers. At direct sales shops, you can purchase a wide variety of lacquerware products ranging from traditional makie bowls to modern designed tableware and accessories. There are also facilities where you can take factory tours and observe the lacquering process up close.
