Arida City in Wakayama Prefecture is Japan's top production area for Arida mikan oranges. From autumn to winter, you can enjoy mikan picking, where you can pick and taste orange-colored mikan growing on terraced fields to your heart's content. Arida mikan are characterized by their thin skin and high sugar content, and the fresh sweetness of freshly picked fruit is exceptional. From the terraced fields with their excellent views, you can also enjoy scenery of the Arita River and Kii Channel. Harvested mikan can also be purchased by weight as souvenirs.
