At Amidaji Temple, a Rinzai Zen Buddhist ancient temple in Ushiku City, Ibaraki Prefecture, zazen sessions open to the public are held every Sunday morning. For about one hour starting at 6 o'clock, you sit in zazen in the main hall, regulate your breathing, and calm your mind. A concise dharma talk by the head priest is also included, allowing you to experience a refreshing morning away from daily life. Beginners can be assured as careful instruction on how to sit is provided. Rice gruel is sometimes served as hospitality after zazen, making it a popular way to spend your day off and reset both body and mind.
