Lake Towada
A scenic area where the mystical blue surface of a double caldera lake spreads. The 'Maiden Statue' created by Kotaro Takamura stands here.
Lake Towada is a double caldera lake that spans Aomori and Akita prefectures, located at an altitude of 400 meters. The highly transparent, mystical blue lake surface and the virgin forest surrounding it display beauty through all four seasons. Along the lakeshore stands the last sculptural work of Kotaro Takamura, the 'Maiden Statue,' and sightseeing boat cruises on the lake are also popular. It lies at the upstream of the Oirase Gorge, and many tourists visit it as a combined tour. The autumn foliage season is especially spectacular, and the brocade-like autumn landscape reflected on the lake surface is truly awe-inspiring.
