Koenji Vintage Record Hunt
Hunting for vintage records at record shops in Koenji. You can find hidden gems from jazz to rock to Japanese pop songs.
Koenji is one of Tokyo's subculture meccas alongside Shimokitazawa, with numerous vintage record shops scattered throughout the area. What makes it interesting is that each shop specializes in different genres - jazz specialty stores, rock and punk shops, and stores dealing in wa-mono (Japanese pop songs and city pop). The selection is so comprehensive that even overseas buyers visit. The price range is wide, from 100 yen junk records to rare pressings costing tens of thousands of yen. The Koenji way is to grab a drink at an izakaya near the station after a day of record digging.
