Located in Aizumi-cho, Tokushima Prefecture, "Waza-no-Yakata" is a workshop where you can experience the tradition of Awa indigo. Aizumi-cho has a history of once flourishing as a major indigo production area, and this tradition continues today. In the experience, you can enjoy authentic dyeing using "sukumo indigo" made from natural indigo fermentation liquid. Choose materials from handkerchiefs, stoles, T-shirts, and more, and create original designs using techniques such as shibori (tie-dyeing) and itajime (board clamping). The process of dipping into the indigo vat and gradually turning blue through oxidation when exposed to air is truly moving. You can take home your own unique indigo-dyed creation that is one of a kind in the world.
