Tendo Shogi Piece Carving Experience

Tendo City accounts for approximately 95% of Japan's national market share in shogi piece production, making it 'The City of Shogi.' The streetscape extending from in front of Tendo Station features manhole covers and street lamps adorned with shogi motifs, and the entire town is dedicated to shogi. At workshops such as Eishundo, you can enjoy the 'shogi piece writing experience' where you write characters on actual shogi pieces under the guidance of craftspeople, or the 'shogi piece carving experience' where you carve characters with an engraving tool. You can take home the completed pieces as a souvenir, and your unique one-of-a-kind shogi piece is the perfect travel memory. The annual human shogi event held in April is also a must-see local attraction.
