Takasaki Shorinzan Daruma Temple
A Zen temple known as the birthplace of daruma dolls. The temple grounds offer a spectacular sight with countless daruma dolls dedicated throughout the premises.
Shorinzan Daruma Temple is a temple of the Obaku sect nationally known as the birthplace of Takasaki daruma dolls. Throughout the temple grounds, daruma dolls of all sizes dedicated by visitors are lined up in every available space, creating a magnificent spectacle. The annual daruma market held every January attracts about 200,000 visitors who come seeking lucky charms for the new year. Visitors can also experience painting daruma dolls and create their own original daruma. The temple also features Senshin-tei, where architect Bruno Taut once stayed, making it an interesting place for architecture enthusiasts as well.
