Takao Mountain: Tengu Shrine and Yakuōin Temple
Visit Yakuōin Temple, associated with Tengu legend, at Michelin three-star Takao Mountain. The view of Mount Fuji from the summit is also a must-see.
Takao Mountain, which earned three stars in the Michelin Green Guide, is the world's most climbed mountain, visited by approximately 3 million people annually. Yakuōin Temple, located on the mountainside, is an ancient temple founded in 744 where Tengu is enshrined as the guardian deity. Statues of the great and small Tengu stand throughout the temple grounds, creating a unique and mystical atmosphere. Climbing Trail 1 (Main Approach Course) will bring you to the summit in about 90 minutes, and on clear days you'll be greeted with spectacular views of Mount Fuji.
