Cherry blossoms and Ieyasu statue at Sunpu Castle Park
A famous spring destination where about 500 cherry trees bloom in full glory at the castle ruins associated with Tokugawa Ieyasu
This park, developed on the site of Sunpu Castle where Tokugawa Ieyasu spent his later years, serves as a place of relaxation for Shizuoka citizens. In spring, about 500 Someiyoshino cherry trees adorn the moat edges, creating a spectacular contrast with the white walls of Higashi-Gomon Gate and Tatsumi-Yagura Turret. The excavation site of the castle keep foundation is also open for viewing, where visitors can feel the romance of history through the remains of Japan's largest-scale castle keep foundation. Taking commemorative photos in front of the Ieyasu statue in the park is a classic way to enjoy the visit.
