Shirakami Sanchi Juniko Lakes
Spanning the base of the UNESCO World Heritage Shirakami Sanchi, the Juniko Lakes are a mysterious cluster of gleaming cobalt blue lakes.
Located at the western base of Shirakami Sanchi, the Juniko Lakes consist of 33 lakes formed by a major earthquake during the Edo period. Among them, Aike (Blue Pond) stands out with its exceptional clarity and dreamlike cobalt blue waters that change color moment by moment depending on the light—a breathtakingly beautiful sight. You can explore diverse lakes such as Waketsutsubo Pond and Gama Pond while walking along trails surrounded by pristine beech forest. The trek takes approximately 1-2 hours, making it an appealing casual trekking destination. With bus access from Juniko Station, it's also popular as part of a railway journey.
