Cherry Blossom Avenue on Nijukkenkaidō in Shizunai, Shin-Hidaka
One of Japan's finest cherry blossom avenues, with approximately 3,000 cherry blossoms blooming magnificently along a straight 7km stretch. A spectacular scenic road that announces Hokkaido's late spring.
The Nijukkenkaidō Cherry Blossom Avenue in Shizunai, Shin-Hidaka Town spans approximately 7km in a straight line with about 3,000 cherry trees including Ezo wild cherry—one of Japan's most impressive scales. Selected as one of Japan's 100 Famous Cherry Blossom Sites, it typically reaches peak bloom in early to mid-May. During the cherry blossom festival, the road becomes a pedestrian paradise and horse-drawn carriage tours of the cherry blossom avenue—characteristic of this horse-producing area—are also held. The contrast between the green of the pastures and the pink of the cherry blossoms embodies the generous beauty characteristic of Hokkaido.
