Izumo Hinomisaki Lighthouse and Shrine
Enjoy the spectacular views of Japan's tallest stone lighthouse and Hinomisaki, the sacred land of sunsets.
Hinomisaki, about 20 minutes by car from Izumo Taisha, is a cape jutting out into the Sea of Japan, where the white Hinomisaki Lighthouse stands as Japan's tallest stone lighthouse at 43.65 meters. From the top of the lighthouse, a 360-degree panoramic view unfolds, offering a commanding view of the magnificent Sea of Japan scenery. The adjacent Hinomisaki Shrine features beautiful vermillion-lacquered buildings and is famous as a sunset viewing spot, true to its name "Nisshin-gu" (Palace where the sun sets). This is a must-visit spot to combine with a pilgrimage to Izumo Taisha.
