Azuchi Castle Ruins and Nobunaga's Hall
近江八幡市, Shiga
Visit the legendary Azuchi Castle Ruins built by Oda Nobunaga and its restored castle keep
Azuchi Castle is a magnificent structure built by Oda Nobunaga that was destroyed by fire in just three years—a legendary castle lost to time. The remaining stone walls and foundation stones on Azuchi Mountain allow visitors to appreciate its former grandeur. At Nobunaga's Hall at the base of the mountain, the topmost section of the Azuchi Castle keep, restored for the Seville Exposition, is displayed at full scale. The dazzling gold-leaf-decorated keep presents an impressive and commanding presence.
