The Sea of Shakotan Blue
The sea renowned as 'Shakotan Blue' with exceptional clarity. The view from Kamui Cape is breathtakingly beautiful.
Shakotan Peninsula is the only area in Hokkaido designated as an underwater park, featuring remarkably clear and beautiful waters. The cobalt blue sea called 'Shakotan Blue' has a transparency that seems almost un-Japanese. Kamui Cape in particular is a spectacular viewpoint where visitors can take in sweeping views of the Shakotan Blue sea stretching left and right from the cape's tip after about a 20-minute walk on the promenade 'Chareanka Trail'. In summer, sea urchin fishing season opens, and you can enjoy fresh sea urchin rice bowls at local eateries. Kogane Cape and Shimataui Coast are also popular scenic spots.
