Located on Aoba Mountain in Sendai City, the Sendai Castle Ruins are the site of Sendai Castle built by Date Masamune in 1601. Though the main castle tower was never built, the main citadel ruins offer a spectacular view of the Sendai cityscape and the Pacific Ocean. The famous Date Masamune equestrian statue is a beloved icon of Sendai, drawing countless tourists for photos. The adjacent Sendai City Museum showcases historical artifacts of the Date clan.
