Sapporo White Illumination
Japan's first illumination event. The fantastical light art of snow and LED adorns Sapporo's winter.
Sapporo White Illumination is Japan's first illumination event, which began in 1981. Centered around Odori Park, approximately 800,000 LED lights fantastically illuminate the snowy city. The installations at the Odori venue feature changing themes each year and are extremely popular as photo-worthy spots. The tree-lined illumination along Station-front Street and the illumination along Minami-Ichijo Street are also spectacular, with the entire city wrapped in light. The combination of snow and illumination creates a beauty unique to northern regions and is a classic romantic winter date spot.
