The Sapporo Clock Tower is a historic building constructed in 1878 as a practice ground for Sapporo Agricultural School, the predecessor of Hokkaido University. This white wooden two-story building incorporates American Midwest architectural style and is designated as a National Important Cultural Property. The clock continues to accurately keep time and is known as Japan's oldest tower clock. Inside the building, visitors can learn about the history of Sapporo's development and the mechanism of the clock tower, and events such as concerts are held in the lecture hall on the second floor.
