Samani and Enrum Cape with Mount Apoi Geopark
様似郡様似町, Hokkaido
Experience alpine flora and geology at Mount Apoi, certified as a UNESCO Global Geopark
Mount Apoi in Samani Town is a geologically precious mountain certified as a UNESCO Global Geopark. Despite its elevation of only 810 meters, the mountain's unique soil composition of ultramafic peridotite rock allows endemic alpine plants to be observed at low altitudes. Many endemic species such as Hidakasou and Apoi Azumagiku can be found here, and visitors can learn about Earth's internal structure at the Geopark Visitor Center. A day hike combined with the spectacular views of Enrum Cape is highly recommended.
