Sakura Castle was an earthwork castle from the Edo period and is designated as one of Japan's Top 100 Castles. The castle remains such as the main keep foundation, dry moats, and horse exits (umadashi) are well-preserved and popular among history enthusiasts. In spring, approximately 1,100 cherry trees bloom magnificently, making it famous as a cherry blossom viewing spot. In the former castle town, three samurai residences are open to the public, offering glimpses into the lives of Edo period warriors. The adjacent National Museum of Japanese History provides opportunities to deeply study Japanese history. The Kunugi Path within the castle ruins also offers spectacular autumn foliage.
