Water Mirror of Hoshitoge Rice Terraces
Sky reflected in approximately 200 rice terraces. A scenic spot called Japan's original landscape
The Hoshitoge Rice Terraces in the Matsudai district of Tokamachi City feature approximately 200 rice paddies spread in stepped formations along mountain slopes, creating one of Japan's finest terraced landscapes. Particularly from May to June before rice planting, during the 'water mirror' period when the water-filled terraces reflect the sky like mirrors, a fantastical scenery unfolds combined with the early morning sea of clouds. This beauty, which was featured in the opening sequence of an NHK Taiga drama, serves as a sacred place for photographers, attracting photography enthusiasts from across the country.
