Nihonmatsu Chrysanthemum Doll Festival
The Nihonmatsu Chrysanthemum Dolls, Japan's largest-scale chrysanthemum festival, is an autumn tradition continuing for over 60 years
Held annually from mid-October to mid-November at Kasumiga Castle Park in Nihonmatsu City, the Chrysanthemum Doll Festival is Japan's largest-scale chrysanthemum celebration. The life-size chrysanthemum dolls, which recreate famous historical scenes, are artistic masterpieces meticulously crafted using thousands of chrysanthemums, one by one. The venue showcases diverse chrysanthemum displays including large varieties, cascading varieties, and thousand-bloom varieties, enveloped in the sweet fragrance of chrysanthemums. The contrast between the stone walls of Kasumiga Castle with Adatara Mountain as a backdrop and the chrysanthemums creates a spectacular view, making it a renowned autumn destination in northeastern Japan that can be enjoyed alongside autumn leaf viewing.
