Wisteria Flowers at Kasuga Taisha

The Man'yo Botanical Garden at Kasuga Taisha in Nara has approximately 200 wisteria trees of about 20 varieties planted, which bloom magnificently from late April to mid-May. The characteristic feature is that you can enjoy them for a long period as they bloom in sequence from early-blooming to late-blooming varieties. The sight of purple, white, and pink wisteria flowers hanging down from the trellises is truly like a purple curtain. The combination of Kasuga Taisha's shrine buildings and wisteria creates painterly beauty. The wisteria flower is also featured in Kasuga Taisha's sacred crest, evoking a deep connection with the shrine.
