Prince Shotoku's temple registered as a World Heritage Site as the world's oldest wooden architecture
Horyuji Temple is said to have been founded by Prince Shotoku in 607, and its five-story pagoda and main hall are registered as World Heritage Sites as the world's oldest wooden structures. It is a precious cultural property that preserves the architectural style of the Asuka period to this day, and houses many national treasure-class Buddhist statues and crafts, including the Kudara Kannon statue and the Tamamushi Shrine.
