Nagatoro Boat Descent
A scenic boat tour down the Arakawa where you can fully enjoy the gorge's natural beauty from aboard. The rock formations, designated as a national scenic spot and natural monument, are truly impressive.
An approximately 3km boat descent down the Nagatoro Gorge in the upper Arakawa River aboard a wooden Japanese boat. Starting with the rock formations designated as a national scenic spot and natural monument, the varied gorge features striking cliffs known as the Chichibu Red Cliff, all enjoyed from the boat. Skilled boatmen navigate the thrilling rapids and shallows as if it were an amusement park ride. The scenery changes beautifully with the seasons—cherry blossoms in spring, lush green in summer, and autumn foliage in fall. Pair your visit with a stop at Hodosan Shrine and Nagatoro's famous shaved ice. The tour takes approximately 20 minutes.
