Shimabara Castle is a beautiful castle with a five-story keep, featuring excellent exhibitions on Christian historical materials and the Shimabara Rebellion. Throughout the castle town, underground water from Mount Unzen springs up everywhere, creating picturesque scenery with carp swimming in the waterways along the samurai residence streets. Kanzarashi (sweet white dumpling dessert) made with spring water is a local specialty, allowing visitors to enjoy refreshing strolls unique to this water town.
