Gunkanjima Cruise
Nagasaki, Nagasaki
A cruise tour to view the ruins of World Heritage Site Gunkanjima up close from the ship
Hashima (Gunkanjima) is an uninhabited island and World Cultural Heritage Site floating about 19km southwest of Nagasaki Port. It once prospered as an undersea coal mining island, and at its peak, more than 5,000 people lived there. Now the abandoned high-rise apartments and schools remain as ruins preserving their original appearance, and on landing tours you can experience their powerful presence up close. If landing is not possible due to weather or wave conditions, it becomes a cruise around the island.
