Nagasaki's famous castella is a Nanban confection that came from Portugal in the 16th century. At some long-established confectionery shops in the city, you can experience hand-baking castella under the guidance of skilled artisans. The approximately 90-minute experience covers everything from whipping eggs to pouring the batter and baking. You can taste the freshly baked castella and take the rest home as souvenirs.
