Takachiho Yokagura Night Sacred Dance Viewing Experience
Witness the mystical dance of Yokagura night sacred performances dedicated nightly at Takachiho Shrine up close
Takachiho's Yokagura is a traditional performing art designated as a National Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property. At Takachiho Shrine, four representative Kagura dances are performed nightly from 8:00 PM for about one hour, which tourists can also observe. The "Tajikarao no Mai (Dance of Tajikarao)" based on the myth of Amaterasu Omikami hiding in the Ame-no-Iwato cave is particularly powerful and impressive. From autumn to winter, you can also observe the original Yokagura performances where all 33 dances are performed throughout the night in various villages.
