Maruyama Senmaida Terraced Rice Field Landscape
熊野市, Mie
Experience seasonal pastoral landscapes at Maruyama Senmaida, one of Japan's largest terraced rice fields
Maruyama Senmaida is one of Japan's largest terraced rice fields, located in Kumano City, Mie Prefecture, where approximately 1,340 rice paddies spread out in terraces across a mountainside. In spring, the water-filled paddies mirror the sky like glass; in summer, green rice ears sway in the wind; and in autumn, a golden harvest landscape unfolds. In June, the Mushiokuri (insect-sending) festival illuminates a thousand torches, creating a magical sight.
