Relive Toyotomi Hideyoshi's cherry blossom viewing at World Heritage site Daigoji Temple. About 1,000 cherry trees bloom in full glory
Daigoji Temple in Fushimi Ward, Kyoto City, is a World Heritage temple known for the grand cherry blossom viewing held by Toyotomi Hideyoshi. The temple grounds boast about 1,000 cherry trees of various species including weeping cherry, Somei Yoshino, and double-flowered cherry, allowing visitors to enjoy the blossoms for an extended period from late March to mid-April. The collaboration of the national treasure five-story pagoda with the cherry blossoms creates an excellent photo spot. The autumn foliage is also magnificent, with the maple leaves around Bentendo being among the most beautiful in Kyoto. The mountain path to Kami-Daigo is also popular as a hiking course.
