Autumn Leaves of Takao and Jingo-ji Temple
Takao, one of Kyoto's premier autumn foliage spots. The spectacular autumn scenery adorning the stone steps of Jingo-ji Temple is breathtaking
Takao in Ukyo-ku, Kyoto City is known as the area where autumn leaves turn color earliest in Kyoto. Walking along the valley of the Kiyotaki River and climbing approximately 400 stone steps, you'll reach Jingo-ji Temple, where autumn foliage fills the temple grounds and the national treasure statue of Yakushi Nyorai welcomes visitors. Kawarake throwing is a unique Takao experience - it's believed that your wishes will come true when you throw unglazed ceramic plates toward the valley. You can fully enjoy the autumn colors with a three-temple pilgrimage (Sanbi-meguri) that includes Saimyo-ji and Kozan-ji temples along with Jingo-ji.
