Miyama Kayabuki-no-Sato
Miyama Kayabuki-no-Sato where a thatched-roof village remains. A time slip where you can encounter Japan's original landscape
Kayabuki-no-Sato in Miyama-cho, Nantan City, Kyoto Prefecture is a preservation district for important traditional buildings where 39 thatched-roof houses still exist. The village scenery, which can be called Japan's original landscape, shows different expressions throughout the four seasons. Spring brings cherry blossoms, summer shows green rice fields, autumn displays autumn leaves, and winter presents snow-covered scenery—beautiful landscapes spread throughout the year. During the winter "Yuki-tōrō" (Snow Lantern) event, the snow-covered thatched-roof houses are illuminated, creating a fantastical sight. Gelato made with Miyama milk is also a specialty.
