The Tenjin Market held on the 25th of every month at Kitano Tenmangu in Kyoto is the largest temple fair in Kyoto, with about 1,000 stalls lined up throughout the shrine grounds and surrounding streets. Everything is available, from antiques, vintage clothing, pottery, and handmade goods to food like yakisoba and takoyaki. The December 25th "Shimai Tenjin" (Final Tenjin) and January 25th "Hatsu Tenjin" (First Tenjin) are particularly bustling. Held from early morning until early afternoon, the best time to find bargains is first thing in the morning. You can enjoy it together with shrine worship.
