Kyohoku and Miyama Thatched-Roof Village
南丹市, Kyoto
The pristine countryside of Miyama, with 38 remaining traditional thatched-roof houses, is a treasure of Japan's rural heritage
In the northern settlement of Miyama Town, Nantan City, 38 traditional thatched-roof houses remain, and the area is designated as an Important Traditional Building Preservation District. The landscape unfolds with Japan's pristine countryside across the seasons—spring with cherry blossoms and rape flowers, summer with fireflies, autumn with crimson leaves, and winter with snow. During the winter 'Yuki Tourou' event, the snow-covered thatched roofs are illuminated, creating a dreamlike atmosphere.
