The Utasai Beech Forest in Kuromatsu-nai Town is designated as a National Natural Monument as the northern limit of beech's natural habitat. The forest, lined with giant beech trees over 200 years old, is especially beautiful in May with fresh green leaves and in October with autumn colors. Tours walking through with local nature guides are popular. The forest remains cool and refreshing even in summer, and you can also experience forest bathing in the dappled sunlight.
