Konpira Shrine
Konpira Shrine, affectionately known as 'Konpira-san', is a guardian deity of the sea with its main hall enshrined at the top of 785 stone steps.
Konpira Shrine, enshrined on the mid-slope of Zoutousan, has long been revered as a guardian deity of maritime traffic. The 785 stone steps to the main shrine and 1,368 steps to the inner shrine are famous, and the approach is lined with souvenir shops and renowned Sanuki udon restaurants. From the grounds, you can overlook the Sanuki Plain and enjoy seasonal beauty including spring cherry blossoms and autumn foliage. The shrine contains wall paintings by Maruyama Okyo in its important cultural property study hall, making it one of Shikoku's leading shrines with significant historical value.
