Kairakuen
One of Japan's Three Great Gardens, alongside Kanazawa's Kenroku-en and Okayama's Korakuen. The plum blossom festival featuring approximately 3,000 blooming plum trees is magnificent.
One of Japan's Three Great Gardens, built by Tokugawa Nariaki, the 9th lord of Mito Domain, in 1842. Approximately 3,000 plum trees of about 100 varieties are planted across the vast grounds of 130,000 square meters. During the plum blossom festival from mid-February to late March, many tourists from throughout the country visit. The views from Kobuuntei are particularly spectacular, with stunning vistas overlooking Senba Lake. In addition to plum blossoms, visitors can enjoy cherry blossoms, azaleas, bush clover, and other flowers throughout the four seasons. The walking path along the shores of the adjacent Senba Lake is also popular and ideal for jogging and walking.
