Scenic Beauty of Kankakei Gorge on Shodoshima
One of Japan's three greatest scenic gorges, Kankakei on Shodoshima. A spectacular view overlooking the autumn foliage gorge from the ropeway.
Kankakei Gorge on Shodoshima is a National Scenic Site numbered among Japan's three greatest scenic gorges. Shaped by volcanic activity approximately 13 million years ago, unique rock formations and cliffs stretch across, and the panorama spreading below from the ropeway is breathtaking. Especially during autumn's fall foliage season, the contrast between the gorge painted in red, yellow, and orange and the blue Seto Inland Sea is magnificent. From the observation deck at the summit, you can take in the scenic beauty of the multiple islands of the Seto Inland Sea in a single view, and it is Shodoshima's premier scenic spot that can be enjoyed throughout all four seasons.
