Chichu Art Museum's Architecture of Light
Experience the works of Monet and James Turrell in natural light at the Chichu Art Museum, designed by Tadao Ando. A fusion of architecture and art.
The Chichu Art Museum on Naoshima is a one-of-a-kind museum designed by Tadao Ando, with the entire building buried underground. Based on the concept of viewing artworks using only natural light, it displays Claude Monet's 'Water Lilies,' James Turrell's light installations, and large sculptures by Walter De Maria. The appearance of the works changes depending on the time of day and weather, so you will never experience the same artwork in exactly the same way twice. The reservation system also ensures a peaceful viewing experience, which is another appeal of the museum.
