Kitakami Tenshouji is a cherry blossom avenue extending approximately 2km along the Kitakami River, ranking alongside Hirosaki and Kakunodate as one of the Three Great Cherry Blossom Spots of Michinoku. Approximately 10,000 Somei Yoshino and weeping cherry blossoms bloom in unison from mid-April to early May. During the cherry blossom festival, visitors can pass through tunnels of blooming cherry blossoms by sightseeing boat or horse-drawn carriage, enjoying magnificent cherry blossom viewing against a backdrop of snow-capped mountains.
