Geibikei Gorge Boat Ride
A scenic boat journey through Geibikei Gorge surrounded by 100-meter cliffs, one of Japan's one hundred scenic spots
Geibikei Gorge stretches about 2km along the Jatetsu River with towering 100-meter cliff faces, making it a scenic spot selected as one of Japan's one hundred scenic wonders. Boarding a yakatabune steered by a boatman with a single pole, the round-trip boat ride takes about 90 minutes and lets you experience the stunning gorge that can only be seen from the water's surface. At the turnaround point, you can disembark and enjoy the tradition of throwing lucky clay balls called un-dama into rock crevices across the gorge. In winter, heated kotatsu boats operate, offering a luxurious experience of viewing the snow-covered gorge from inside the warmth of a kotatsu.
