Noto Agehama-style Salt Field Experience
Japan's only salt-making method with 500 years of history. Salt-making experience by sprinkling seawater on sandy beaches
The Agehama-style salt fields remaining in Suzu City at the tip of the Noto Peninsula are Japan's only traditional salt-making method with over 500 years of history. You can experience this ancient technique where seawater is manually sprinkled on sandy beaches and concentrated using the power of sun and wind. The work of drawing up seawater with buckets and evenly sprinkling it on the sand is more laborious than it appears, but the resulting salt is mineral-rich with a sweet flavor of exceptional quality. A museum where you can learn about the history of salt fields is also attached.
